Summary

USA Today bestselling author Sarah Morgan returns with the ultimate beach read, as one woman forges the most unlikely friendship of all, and embarks on a summer of confronting her past in order to build the future she wants。。。

When Joanna Whitman's famous ex-husband dies in a car accident, she doesn't know what to feel。 Their dysfunctional marriage held more painful secrets than she cares to remember。 But when she discovers that the young woman with him in the crash is pregnant, Joanna feels compelled to act, knowing exactly how brutal the media spotlight will be on celebrity chef Cliff Whitman's ex-wife and his mysterious female friend。

Ashley Blake can't believe it when Joanna shows up in her hospital room and suggests they hide away at her beach house on a sleepy stretch of California coast。 Joanna should be hating her, not helping her。 But alone and pregnant, Ashley can't turn down Joanna's offer。 Yet she knows that if Joanna ever found out the real reason Ashley was in that car, their tentative bond would shatter instantly。

Joanna's only goal for the summer is privacy, but her return causes major waves in the local community, especially for the man she left behind years ago。 All Ashley wants is space to plan for her and her baby's future, and to avoid causing any trouble for Joanna。 But as secrets spill out under the hot summer sun, this unlikely friendship is about to be put to the test。

Joanna and Ashley and Melanie are so much fun。 I liked the alternating POV chapters which allowed me to really get to know each woman。 I wanted to sit down at Nick’s diner for lunch by the time I was done。 A must read for summer。

Delightful read from Sarah Morgan。A story told from two perspectives - Joanna who is 40 and divorced for a year and Ashley, who isn't even 20 but has a whole lot on her plate。 A story about second chances, new beginnings and fresh starts。 A reminder that complicated pasts don't necessarily need to mean complicated futures。 Delightful read from Sarah Morgan。A story told from two perspectives - Joanna who is 40 and divorced for a year and Ashley, who isn't even 20 but has a whole lot on her plate。 A story about second chances, new beginnings and fresh starts。 A reminder that complicated pasts don't necessarily need to mean complicated futures。 。。。more

This is a women's fiction story with themes of family, friendship, honesty, forgiveness, love, community second chances and romance。 Once again, Sarah Morgan has penned a wonderful summer story。 Regina Reagan narrates Beach House Summer and does a great job。 She is a new narrator to me, but I will definitely listen to more books she voices。 She gives the various characters their own voices and personalities。 It was almost 11 hours, but it was so enjoyable to listen to, that I just kept listening every spare moment I had。 I definitely recommend this book in whatever format you prefer。 The publisher generously provided me a copy of this book upon request。 The rating an opinions shared are my own。 。。。more

Ok how can I get myself a beach house summer?! Doesn’t that sound amazing? Interestingly, NOT A Beach Read。 For my own tastes, "beach reads" are light and breezy that don't really have much (if any) drama。 Maybe action, yes, but no dusty room kind of stuff。 Which actually makes this tale *not* a beach read, as there is quite a bit of drama and a few dusty rooms to be had in this tale。But don't get me wrong, it really is a strong tale and beautifully set in a small beach town in California, and the story itself is excellently told。 If you haven't read this author before Interestingly, NOT A Beach Read。 For my own tastes, "beach reads" are light and breezy that don't really have much (if any) drama。 Maybe action, yes, but no dusty room kind of stuff。 Which actually makes this tale *not* a beach read, as there is quite a bit of drama and a few dusty rooms to be had in this tale。But don't get me wrong, it really is a strong tale and beautifully set in a small beach town in California, and the story itself is excellently told。 If you haven't read this author before, this is actually a great tale to introduce yourself to her with, as it shows her ability to both pull heartstrings and capture the beauty and charm of wherever she chooses to place her tale。 Very much recommended。 。。。more

BEACH HOUSE SUMMER has got to be the best feel good story I have read in a long time。 Hang on to your seats, it’s a crazy rollercoaster ride! At first, the story is painful and tragic。 Then it takes a turn and gets emotional and deals with many different heavy situations。 Joanna has just learned that her ex husband has died in a car crash。 She also learns that there was a survivor…。a very young and pregnant female。 Joanna doesn’t know what else to do except go and help the girl, Ashley。 She know BEACH HOUSE SUMMER has got to be the best feel good story I have read in a long time。 Hang on to your seats, it’s a crazy rollercoaster ride! At first, the story is painful and tragic。 Then it takes a turn and gets emotional and deals with many different heavy situations。 Joanna has just learned that her ex husband has died in a car crash。 She also learns that there was a survivor…。a very young and pregnant female。 Joanna doesn’t know what else to do except go and help the girl, Ashley。 She knows Ashley has no one and Joanna knows exactly what that feels like。 After reading BEACH HOUSE SUMMER , I want to hang out with Joanna and Ashley。I have only read Sarah Morgan three times before but after reading BEACH HOUSE SUMMER I know I will be reading everything by her that I can get my hands on。 She hooked me from the very first page。 Joanna returns to her old hometown and figures no one will bother her since she has been away for twenty years。 Boy was she wrong。 She figured she burned all her bridges when she left and is completely shocked to know they all still care about her and are eager to help。 I found myself totally absorbed in this story and I enjoyed getting to know all of the characters within this heart tugging story。 I found all of the characters very real and relatable and it was interesting to read how they are all dealing with their troubles in very different ways and it takes a summer away to try and help them。BEACH HOUSE SUMMER has it all, adventure, heartbreak, great dialogue, and awesome characters。 Once I started reading, it was very hard to stop! I have made it a quest to catch up on the rest of Sarah’s books because her writing is just that good。 She makes her readers feel every emotion her characters are feeling to the point where you feel as if you are right there, riding along with them。 Joanna lives a quiet life, except for one thing。 She has no privacy since she was married to a famous TV chef, one who cheated quite a bit。 Joanna has gotten used to a life spent with cameras following her every move, and even after her divorce, they still won’t leave her alone。 My emotions were on a wild roller coaster ride from the first page all the way until the very end。 At first I really tried to read it slowly and make it last, but soon I was so caught up in everyone’s lives and business, I was flipping the pages like a mad woman。I received a complimentary copy of this book from Harper Collins through Netgalley。 Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own。 。。。more

Is the spark still there? It was fascinating to watch the relationship between Joanne and Ashley develop。 Joanne, more of an "if I ignore it long enough it'll go away" sort, and Ashley, who tends to be more the sort to meet challenges head on rather than ignore them or simply pretend they don't exist, wind up helping each other grow。 I genuinely liked the supporting cast and ambiance of the small beach town。 We'd all love to live in a place like this。 Of course, all doesn't run smoothly。 For all her strength, Ashley has secrets。 She isn't returning texts。 She finds it somehow easier to talk to Joanne about her relationship with Nate than her own relationships。 Then the press finds them and converges。 And。。。。 and then lots more happens。 Nope, not telling。 You're just going to have to read the book。 You won't regret it。 It inspires, soothes, and offers the wonderful possibility of second chances。 And, oh, there's a bookstore。 Thanks to Sarah Morgan for the advance copy。 I haven't been reading much romance lately but it's always a delight to dive into her books。 。。。more

Fans of Sarah Morgan will be delighted with her latest novel which whisks readers to a surfing town on the Californian coast。 Examining how we’re shaped by the past and that it takes courage to face our decisions, the story presents the need for compassion and acceptance instead of a hard-nosed telling off if what we do doesn’t please someone else。Morgan has built her career on writing about the difficulties of human relationships and love within comfortable settings。 There is a warmth and clari Fans of Sarah Morgan will be delighted with her latest novel which whisks readers to a surfing town on the Californian coast。 Examining how we’re shaped by the past and that it takes courage to face our decisions, the story presents the need for compassion and acceptance instead of a hard-nosed telling off if what we do doesn’t please someone else。Morgan has built her career on writing about the difficulties of human relationships and love within comfortable settings。 There is a warmth and clarity to her work, and always a satisfying ending, and Beach House Summer offers readers a chance to forget the hum-drum that came with pandemic restrictions and to look forward to a summer of get-aways and spontaneity that have long been missed。Central to the story is Joanna Whitman, whose ex, Cliff, a US celebrity chef with a ‘mega-watt smile’, is killed in a car crash in the Hollywood Hills。 Although divorced, Joanna is heavily involved in his business affairs so when he dies, she’s pursued by the press。But another woman, Ashley, is being hunted as well。 She survived the crash and has a secret of her own。The story takes Joanna to her home beach town of Silver Point where ‘colourful blooms billowed from pots and window boxes’, a place she hasn’t returned to since meeting Cliff 20 years earlier。Soon unresolved issues come to the fore concerning Joanna’s friendship with her childhood best friend Mel, and Mel’s twin Nate, who has a ‘lean and fit’ body and hair ‘flopping toward his eyes’ – cue Joanna’s first love。What it means to belong is also key to the meaning of the book and themes are explored within a story that contains characters with substantial backstory。There’s a lot of dialogue – the three viewpoint characters are clearly talkers – but fortunately Sarah Morgan is good at writing it。 Issues are likely to be discussed in depth and then returned to several times over so that every angle is covered to air both sides of the story。 Not a problem if you like a good chat。Setting the story on the deep-blue pacific Californian coastline where the ‘white-capped ocean… swirled and smashed against the rocks sending spray flying high’ is a wonderful distraction to looking at your own, or someone else’s garden, as we have during the pandemic。And although Cliff is dead, his A-lister status means his character plays a starring role throughout。 Those who enjoy escapism will really like this。This is a lovely read – realised characters, interesting threads, nicely plotted。As Ashley, the car crash survivor, says, “Life doesn’t turn out the way you plan it, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be good, does it? It’s just a change in direction。 And there’s no law that says dreams can’t change。” Exactly。Thanks to publisher HQ for an advance copy in return for an honest review。 。。。more

Beach House Summer by Sarah Morgan is a delightful summer read。 It draws the reader in with a bit of a small mystery at the beginning about Ashley and Cliff。 Joanna begins out as a person in hiding - mostly from the press。 She has had a few bad experiences in her earlier life and that plus the present pressure of the press hounding her has made her want to curl up into herself。 But。。。 her personal assistant and later Ashley have things to say about that。 Ashley is pregnant and alone, or so she t Beach House Summer by Sarah Morgan is a delightful summer read。 It draws the reader in with a bit of a small mystery at the beginning about Ashley and Cliff。 Joanna begins out as a person in hiding - mostly from the press。 She has had a few bad experiences in her earlier life and that plus the present pressure of the press hounding her has made her want to curl up into herself。 But。。。 her personal assistant and later Ashley have things to say about that。 Ashley is pregnant and alone, or so she thinks。 She has fled from an unsure situation into the fire。 When Joanna takes an interest in her, things look up for her。 Together both of them support each other and help build each other up into stronger women。This is a story about small community, second chances, growing up, friendship, sibling relationship, parenting and of course some romance。 The characters had me on their side and I loved the setting of the house, and the way things all get sorted out, mainly by talking things out and finding what is important in each person's heart。 。。。more

Thanks to NetGalley and HQ for the advanced copy of this title in return for an honest review。I’ve only ready Sarah’s Christmas offerings and whilst I’m definitely a festive wintery person, I am a big fan of her writing so I was keen to get stuck in and see if a summer-based one was just as good。 And I needn’t have worried。 This definitely feels more adult, more serious than the others I’ve read, and that’s not a bad thing。 The serious tone suits this story and it’s themes, and there are some to Thanks to NetGalley and HQ for the advanced copy of this title in return for an honest review。I’ve only ready Sarah’s Christmas offerings and whilst I’m definitely a festive wintery person, I am a big fan of her writing so I was keen to get stuck in and see if a summer-based one was just as good。 And I needn’t have worried。 This definitely feels more adult, more serious than the others I’ve read, and that’s not a bad thing。 The serious tone suits this story and it’s themes, and there are some tough subjects like death and grief, loneliness and isolation, parent loss and miscarriage, hormonal teens and an invasion of privacy。 But it’s all subtle, it’s not like a wallop of one thing after another。There are three main POVs - Joanna, Ashley and Mel。 I thoroughly enjoyed the first two, Mel’s slightly less, but it did provide an extra layer of narrative and emotion to the story as you read further on。 At first I did think it was going to be an easy read, a happily-ever-after romcom type situation, and whilst there were elements of that, it definitely goes a lot further and a lot deeper than that。 This is more character focussed for me than plot focussed。 Each person is wrung dry with feeling, they’re clearly whole and well rounded, people that Sarah knows in and out and has come to love, and that love pours out of the page。 The writing is very natural, nothing seems forced, her books all feel like you’re sitting talking to a close friend。 The sign of a good book is one where you don’t keep an eye on how long it’s taking you to read。 Before I knew it, I was half way through。 It is comforting and loving and friendly and warm。 It’s full of love and the importance of friendship and making your own family。 It makes you question yourself, it shows that not everything is how it may appear on the surface。 It’s full of strong women, but they’re not strong just to make a point, they are naturally powerful women, whether they believe they are or not。 。。。more

Another fabulous read from Sarah Morgan。Joanna was part of a high profile marriage until their divorce and her world changes when her ex husband is killed in a car accident and leaves behind a young pregnant girl。 Joanna decides for both of them to return to the town she grew up in where it is quiet and they can hopefully go undetected。This book has a little bit of everything。。 relationships, love, suspense and offers pure escapism which Sarah Morgan is well known for。Thank you to Netgalley and Another fabulous read from Sarah Morgan。Joanna was part of a high profile marriage until their divorce and her world changes when her ex husband is killed in a car accident and leaves behind a young pregnant girl。 Joanna decides for both of them to return to the town she grew up in where it is quiet and they can hopefully go undetected。This book has a little bit of everything。。 relationships, love, suspense and offers pure escapism which Sarah Morgan is well known for。Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in return for an honest review。 It was an absolute pleasure。 。。。more

I loved the characters and the growth they displayed throughout the story。 The setting of Silver Point, on the California central coast, is the perfect romantic place for this story to unfold。 Beach readers pick this one up。 。。。more
